You Deserve a Little Care, Too: Making Time for Yourself This Season

The weather is finally starting to cool down here in C-City, our calendars are filling up, and somehow the end of the year is already knocking at the door.

Between Pride, the holidays, work, family, friends, and everything else life throws at us, this time of year can be exciting. It can also be a lot.

So before you start making sure everyone else is taken care of, let me remind you of something: you deserve a little care, too.

Self-care doesn’t have to be a whole production

When people hear “self-care,” they might picture an expensive spa day, a complicated routine, or a perfectly peaceful morning with no responsibilities.

And listen, if that’s your thing, enjoy it! But self-care can also be much simpler.

It can look like:

  • Taking a walk and enjoying the cooler desert weather.

  • Putting your phone down for a few minutes.

  • Making a meal you actually enjoy.

  • Saying no to plans when you need a night in.

  • Taking a long shower and moisturizing afterward.

  • Calling a friend who makes you feel like yourself.

  • Going to bed a little earlier because you’re tired—and that’s reason enough.

You don’t have to earn a break by running yourself into the ground first.

Check in with yourself

We’re often quick to ask everyone else, “How are you?” But when was the last time you stopped and asked yourself the same question?

Not the automatic “I’m good” answer. The real one.

Are you tired? Feeling overwhelmed? Excited but stretched a little thin? Missing someone? Looking forward to the season but also feeling pressure to make the most of it?

Whatever comes up is okay. Sometimes just noticing how you feel can help you figure out what you need next.

Maybe you need a quiet evening. Maybe you need to get out of the house. Maybe you need to talk to someone you trust. Give yourself room to be honest.

It’s okay to set a boundary

This season can come with a lot of invitations, expectations, and opinions. You don’t have to say yes to every event, every request, or every conversation.

You can love your people and still need time to yourself. You can be excited for Pride and decide you don’t need to be out every night. You can look forward to the holidays and still have complicated feelings about them.

A simple “I can’t make it this time” is enough. You don’t need to write a whole essay explaining why you’re taking care of yourself.

Take care of the body you’re in

Our bodies carry us through busy days, long nights, celebrations, and everything in between. They deserve a little attention, too.

Drink water, get some rest when you can, move in a way that feels good, and give your skin some love. Here in the desert, where the air can feel dry, a little moisturizer after your shower can go a long way toward keeping your skin comfortable.

And if you’ve been putting off taking a moment for yourself, consider this your reminder to put it on the calendar—even if it’s just 20 minutes at home.

Make space for connection

For some of us, this season is full of parties and familiar faces. For others, it can bring up loneliness, grief, or complicated family feelings. Both can be true at the same time.

Your community doesn’t have to look a certain way. It might be your partner, your chosen family, a neighbor, a friend you haven’t seen in a while, or a group where you feel comfortable being yourself.

Reach out. Make the coffee date. Send the “thinking of you” text. Sometimes a little connection is exactly what we need.

And if you’ve been struggling or feeling overwhelmed for a while, talking with a mental health professional can be another meaningful way to care for yourself. You don’t have to figure everything out alone.

A little time for you at The BootyBoss

At The BootyBoss, we believe taking care of yourself should feel good. Whether you’re getting ready for a busy weekend or simply want a little time that’s yours, we’re here to help you feel comfortable and cared for.

From a POLISH to a PLUMP or some time to unwind with TOUCH, there are plenty of ways to make a little room for yourself.

However you spend this season, I hope you make space for the things—and the people—that make you feel good.

And don’t forget to take care of you along the way. 💛
